England vs India, 4th Test at Manchester, ENG vs IND, Jul 23 2025 - Live Cricket Score

India lose three wickets in second session as England rise (205/3*)

KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill fell as England nudged marginally ahead in the Test
Liam Dawson marked his comeback to Test cricket by dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal with his seventh ball to help prise the opening day back open in Manchester.

India's openers batted through the morning session after being inserted but England struck three blows and kept the scoring rate below three an over in the afternoon to leave the fourth Test in the balance.

KL Rahul became the fifth Indian player to reach 1,000 runs in England during the first session and played late throughout his innings. But he edged Chris Woakes to third slip for 46 while looking to punch down the ground, bringing an opening partnership of 94 in exactly 30 overs to an end.

Jaiswal continued to frustrate England and reached his eighth 50-plus score in 16 innings against them after lunch, but fell soon before drinks. He battled his instincts for much of the morning session to soak up pressure in gloomy conditions, but then became the returning Dawson's first victim since July 2017, edging to Harry Brook at slip for 58.

It was the highlight of a superb spell from Dawson, who had 1 for 21 in seven overs at the tea interval and exerted the sort of control that the injured Shoaib Bashir, whom he replaced in England's only change, struggled to in the first three Tests. He kept the recalled B Sai Sudharsan quiet, who was then dropped on 20 down the leg side by Jamie Smith off Ben Stokes.

Stokes himself struck soon before the interval, pleading with Rod Tucker for an lbw decision - which eventually came - after striking Shubman Gill on the pad as he shouldered arms. Gill's unsuccessful appeal meant that he has scored 16, 6 and 12 since his epic Edgbaston Test, and left England slightly ahead on day one.

Trump’s angry, erratic behavior explains his lowball poll numbers

Donald Trump’s wild and whirling day showed why most Americans disapprove of him and think he’s ignoring their key issues — and why his most loyal supporters will never desert him.

The president’s incessant assaults on the national psyche mean everyone has become a little numb to his shocking style of politics. But even for him, Wednesday was a reckless ride, on which he only sparingly addressed the voter concerns that sent him back to the White House.

Trump ignited more speculation he may fire Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell after a Tuesday meeting at which he polled lawmakers about what he should do.

Ousting Powell would be the most overt attempt by a modern president to interfere in the Fed’s role of setting interest rates and could tip the global economy over a cliff. It might also be the riskiest power grab yet of Trump’s expansive second term, since it would traumatize markets by obliterating an assumption that made the US the world’s most powerful economy — that presidents don’t emulate developing world dictators by cooking the books for political gain.

Donald Trump later insisted it was “highly unlikely” he’d dismiss Powell after markets shuddered. But given his volatile nature and obvious desire to exact revenge on an official who has refused to bow to his autocratic impulses, few will take such assurances to the (central) bank.

Meanwhile, in an extraordinary outburst on Truth Social, Trump blasted some of the most vocal MAGA personalities as “weaklings” over their criticism of his administration’s refusal to throw open files on the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Trump’s defensiveness supercharged a furor simmering for more than a week — and is likely to spur more claims he’s got something to hide and to encourage Democratic calls for more transparency.

In seeking to defuse a conspiracy, Trump created a new one, nonsensically accusing Democrats of being behind the storm — even though Epstein was charged with sex trafficking by Trump’s own first-term Justice Department. “Their new SCAM is what we will forever call the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax, and my PAST supporters have bought into this ‘bullsh*t,’ hook, line, and sinker,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump’s volatility is very risky

These two dramas — which are hardly what keeps most voters awake at night — encapsulate the exceptional and often dangerous aspects of Trump’s unique presidency.

He’s looking for a Fed chief who will throw caution to the wind and slash interest rates in pursuit of fast growth. As with his obsession with tariffs, which similarly affronts economic orthodoxy, Trump is itching to implement a risky pet theory that many experts predict would court disaster.

Adelita Grijalva Wins Special Democratic Primary to Replace Her Father in Arizona House Seat

Grijalva won 62 percent of the vote on election night, compared to 20.6 percent for Deja Foxx, in Arizona’s 7th Congressional District.

TUCSON, ARIZONA—Former Pima County Supervisor Adelita Grijalva won the Democratic Primary in Arizona’s 7th Congressional District on July 15 for the Special General Election on Sept. 23 to fill the vacancy created by the death of her father, the late Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-Ariz.).

The district, which covers most of southern Arizona along the U.S. border with Mexico and portions of the City of Tucson, as well as suburban areas near Phoenix, was represented by Raúl Grijalva for over 22 years.

Its heavy Democratic lean means that Adelita Grijalva is likely to be specially elected to the 119th Congress for the remainder of her father’s term.,

The official tally, as of 9 p.m. MT on Election Night, showed Grijalva with approximately 62 percent of the vote, compared to just 20.6 percent for Deja Foxx.
The race was called by the Associated Press at 8.20 p.m. MT.

Grijalva, 54, was long favored to win and led in most opinion polls. However, she faced a strong late challenge from 25-year-old Foxx, an abortion activist and social media influencer, who narrowed the polling gap by 25 percentage points in the last month of the campaign.

Iran president was reportedly injured in Israeli strikes

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian was reportedly slightly injured during one of Israel's attacks on Iran last month.

Iran's state Fars news agency, close to the revolutionary guard, says that on 16 June, six bombs targeted both access and entry points of a secret underground facility in Tehran where Pezeshkian was attending an emergency meeting of the Supreme National Security Council.

The president is said to have suffered leg injuries as he and others escaped through an emergency shaft. Iran is now reported to be following leads of infiltration by Israeli agents.

The Fars report has not been independently verified. Israel has not publicly commented on the report.

Videos posted on social media during the 12-day war showed repeated strikes against a mountain side in north-western Tehran.

Now it has emerged that the strikes on the fourth day of war targeted a secret underground facility in Tehran where Iran's top leaders were at the time.

The Fars news agency report says the Israeli strikes blocked all the six entry and exit points, and also the ventilation system.

The electricity to the facility was also cut off - but Pezeshkian managed to reach safety.

The Supreme National Security Council is Iran's top decision-making body after Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Last week, Pezeshkian accused Israel of trying to kill him - a claim denied by Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz, who said "regime change" had not been not a goal of the war.

Israel wiped out many of top IRGC and army commanders at the very start of the war.

Iranian leaders admit they were taken completely by surprise, and there was a decision-making paralysis for at least the first 24 hours after the attack.

Israel officials admitted that Ayatollah Khamenei was also the target - but that they had lost track of him when he was moved to a secure secret location, cut off to a great extent from the outside world.

There are still many questions about how Israel had gathered critical intelligence about the whereabouts of Iran's top officials and commanders - not to mention the locations of sensitive secret facilities.

On 13 June, Israel launched a surprise attack on nuclear and military sites in Iran, saying it acted to prevent Tehran from making nuclear weapons.

Iran - who retaliated with aerial attacks on Israel - denies seeking to develop nuclear weapons and says its enrichment of uranium is for peaceful purposes.

On 22 June, the US's Air Force and Navy carried out air and missile strikes against three Iranian nuclear facilities.

US President Donald Trump later said the attack "obliterated" the facilities, even as some US intelligence agencies have taken a more cautious view.

Alphabet's Waymo picks up speed as Tesla robotaxi service expands

 Summary:

  • Waymo robotaxis double driverless miles to 100 mln in about six months
  • "Methodical progress now accelerating into rapid, responsible scaling" - Waymo official
  • Completed over 10 mln autonomous trips as of May, up from 5 mln end of 2024

SAN FRANCISCO, July 15 (Reuters) - Alphabet's (GOOGL.O)

, opens new tab Waymo robotaxis have driven more than 100 million miles without a human behind the wheel, doubling the mileage in about six months, a top company official said, as it speeds up deployment in U.S. cities amid rising competition.
Rival Tesla (TSLA.O), opens new tab is expanding its self-driving taxi service after a small trial with about a dozen of its Model Y SUVs in a limited area of Austin, Texas last month.
While Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said Tesla will scale up the service rapidly and launch in several U.S. cities by the end of 2025, Waymo has been expanding its service cautiously for years. With about 1,500 vehicles, it is available in San Francisco and some other Bay Area cities, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Austin and Atlanta.
"Reaching 100 million fully autonomous miles represents years of methodical progress now accelerating into rapid, responsible scaling," said Waymo's chief product officer, Saswat Panigrahi.
"As we expand to serve more riders in more cities, we'll encounter new challenges that will continue strengthening our service."
Waymo had logged about 71 million autonomous miles (114.3 million km) as of March, up from 50 million miles at the end of 2024 and 25 million miles through July 2024. It had completed its first million miles in January 2023.
"This type of milestone helps extend Waymo's lead over other self-driving services, because the cumulative experience of those hundred million miles is important," D.A. Davidson analyst Gil Luria said.

Why the stock market rally may mislead investors in 2025

Investors have gotten good news lately. The U.S. stock market reacted positively to a stable unemployment rate of 4.1 % in June 2025, which was lower than the expected 4.3%.

A dip in the Consumer Price Index (a metric used to gauge inflation) from 3.3% in May 2024 to 2.4% in May 2025 helped alleviate concerns about inflation. The Federal Reserve held its benchmark interest rates steady between 4.25% and 4.50% in June 2025, while the next rate cut is likely scheduled for September 2025.

Against the backdrop of encouraging economic numbers and reduced concerns about tariff wars, the benchmark S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) index hit record highs.

Despite the current market optimism, picking stocks based solely on a few economic metrics can be risky. Instead, investors should consider data across various aspects of the economy — such as employment, inflation and production — and make sure they aren't missing the bigger picture.

MLB All-Star winners and losers: Dramatic mini HR derby spices up festivities

ATLANTA – If you’re the sort who enjoys plotting the demise of baseball – and, in a grander sense, Western Civilization – then it all was neatly summed up by one moment in the wee hours at Truist Park.

A line drive striking the faux brick just to the right of a FanDuel advertisement, a crucial moment in a home-run hitting contest intended to pump life in a once culturally-dominant Midsummer Classic that now claws for viability in the attention economy.

A little heavy, eh?

Well, that’s sort of how it felt when this 95th All-Star Game went to extra innings and was decided for the first time by a swing-off, which replaced the mega-roster to ensure there’d be plenty of pitchers for extra innings, which replaced How The Game Once Was, at least until it ended in a tie before a befuddled Bud Selig in 2002.

Yet the game always seems to win, thanks in large part to the stars in the arena that seem to produce spectacular feats, regardless of format. On this night, it was Kyle Schwarber’s three homers in three swings that stood up for a National League “victory” after American Leaguer Jonathan Aranda’s bullet line drive hit brick and not seats. When Aranda followed with a harmless pop fly that sent the NL into a bobbing mass of celebration down the first base line, they were 7-6 victors (4-3 on penalty swings).

Pentagon pulls 2,000 National Guard members from Los Angeles in immigration rollback

WASHINGTON ― The Trump administration is pulling half of the California National Guard members it deployed to Los Angeles in a major rollback of President Donald Trump's militarized response to protests in Southern California over immigration arrests and raids.

“Thanks to our troops who stepped up to answer the call, the lawlessness in Los Angeles is subsiding," Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in a July 15 statement. "As such, the Secretary has ordered the release of 2,000 California National Guardsmen (79th IBCT) from the federal protection mission."

Trump deployed 4,000 California National Guardsmen on June 7 to respond to protests that racked the southern part of the state after he stepped up immigration raids and arrests, targeting farms, restaurants, and hardware stores across the Los Angeles area. He also ordered 700 Marines to the city that were tasked with guarding federal property.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass claimed victory after Trump's withdrawal of guardsmen.

“This happened because the people of Los Angeles stood united and stood strong," Bass said in a statement. "We organized peaceful protests, we came together at rallies, we took the Trump administration to court ‒ all of this led to today’s retreat."
