Tropical Storm Erin forms, to become first Atlantic hurricane of 2025

Erin has formed in the eastern Atlantic and is forecast to be the first hurricane and first major hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic season. Erin will be a long-track storm and will eye the United States next week.

A tropical rainstorm in the eastern Atlantic Ocean has evolved into Tropical Storm Erin, and it may be on its way to a major hurricane this week, AccuWeather experts say. Meanwhile, there are additional areas also being monitored for potential tropical development this week.

Brandon Blackstock Sick, Kelly Clarkson Cancels Shows Due to Ex-Husband’s Illness

Kelly Clarkson announced the cancellation of the remaining August performances of her Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace due to her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock's illness.

The pop singer and talk show host announced the last-minute change in an Instagram post on August 6, telling fans, “Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas. While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them.”

“I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows, and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding,” the American Idol Season 1 winner wrote.

Clarkson was married to Blackstock, a talent manager, from 2013 to 2022. The exes share two children, River, 10, and Remington, 8.

This is the second time in the past month that Clarkson has cancelled shows. In early July, she posted to Instagram to reveal that she was “devastated” to postpone two opening nights at Caesars Palace.

Cluster of Legionnaire’s disease cases found in NYC has health officials on alert

The city health department has launched an investigation after a cluster of Legionnaire’s disease cases were identified in Harlem over the weekend, with officials urging New Yorkers to take precautions.

Five cases of the potentially fatal pneumonia-like illness were diagnosed in the Manhattan neighborhood in recent days, although no deaths have been reported,
 the department said.

“Any New Yorkers with flu-like symptoms should contact a health care provider as soon as possible,” deputy chief medical officer Dr. Toni Eyssallenne said in a statement.

“Legionnaire’s disease can be effectively treated if diagnosed early,” Eyssallenne said. “But New Yorkers at higher risk, like adults aged 50 and older and those who smoke or have chronic lung conditions, should be especially mindful of their symptoms and seek care as soon as symptoms begin.”

Loni Anderson, star of 1980s sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati, dies aged 79

Actor died at a Los Angeles hospital after a ‘prolonged’ illness, days before her 80th birthday, her publicist says

Loni Anderson, who played a struggling radio station’s empowered receptionist on the hit TV comedy WKRP in Cincinnati, died on Sunday, just days before her 80th birthday.

Anderson died at a Los Angeles hospital following a “prolonged” illness, said her longtime publicist, Cheryl J Kagan.

“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother,” Anderson’s family said in a statement.

WKRP in Cincinnati aired from 1978-1982 and was set in a flagging Ohio radio station trying to reinvent itself with rock music. The cast included Gary Sandy, Tim Reid, Howard Hesseman, Frank Bonner and Jan Smithers, alongside Anderson as the sexy and smart Jennifer Marlowe.

As the station’s receptionist, the blond and high-heeled Jennifer used her sex appeal to deflect unwanted business calls for her boss, Mr Carlson. Her efficiency often kept the station running in the face of others’ incompetence.

The role earned Anderson two Emmy award nominations and three Golden Globe nominations.

Anderson starred on the big screen alongside Burt Reynolds in the 1983 comedy Stroker Ace and the two later married and became tabloid fixtures before divorcing in 1994.

Anderson wrote a 1995 autobiography, My Life in High Heels, which she said was about “the growth of a woman, a woman who survives. It’s about my childhood, the death of my parents, my career, my divorces, and my children. Then of course, the trauma of my marriage to Burt.”

“I think if you’re going to write about yourself, you have to do it warts and all,” Anderson told the Associated Press. “You may not even tell the nicest things about yourself, because you’re telling the truth.”

Anderson is survived by her husband Bob Flick, daughter Deidra and son-in law Charlie Hoffman, son Quinton Anderson Reynolds, grandchildren McKenzie and Megan Hoffman, stepson Adam Flick and his wife Helene, and step-grandchildren Felix and Maximilian.
